This tutorial and starter kit are designed for people who have experience with traditional mediums and want to explore digital sculpting and 3D printing, but don't know where to start. The process of creating a digital mask base and exporting it for printing is stepped through over the course of an hour, spread out across five bite-sized videos. You should come out the other side with a basic understanding of how zBrush works, the fundamentals of a clean workflow, and answers to some common troubleshooting questions.

The videos are captioned and transcribed, and the starter kit includes four mannequin meshes in various head sizes, with eye guides to help track where your mask base should allow vision. Everything included in the project file is free for you to modify, use, or discard as you see fit - what's important is that you feel confident moving forward, and you find a process that works for you!

Video 1: Walking through the zBrush interface
Video 2: Sculpting primary forms
Video 3: Sculpting secondary forms and detailing
Video 4: Prepping and exporting for 3D printing
Video 5: Troubleshooting and frequently asked questions

Note: zBrush is not forward-compatible, which means that older versions of the program won't be able to open the main starter kit project. If you're unable to update your copy of zBrush, try using the included file [ MotleyCrow_zBrush_Starter_Kit_4R7 ] instead - it only includes the mannequin heads and eyes, but it was saved using zBrush version 4R7, so it should be readable by any versions of zBrush from 2016 to the present (but not zBrushCore).
